BY-LAW #1, being a by-law to adopt

A constitution for the

STURGEON BAY POINTE AU BARIL RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION

WHEREAS it is deemed advisable to adopt a constitution setting forth the aims and projects for the Corporation, qualifications to membership and other matters relating generally to the transaction of affairs of the Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril Ratepayers Association formerly known as Our Sturgeon Bay Point au Baril Association.

BE IT ENACTED as by-law of the Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril Ratepayers Association as follows:

Article I

Name:

  1. This Association shall be named Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril Ratepayers Association.

  2. Except where otherwise specified, wherever the words “The Association”, occur in this constitution they shall mean “Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril Ratepayers Association”.

  3. Except where otherwise specified, wherever the words “The Board” occur in this constitution they shall mean “The Board of Directors of the Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril Ratepayers Association”

  4. The official address of the Association shall be:

Mission & Objectives

Mission Statement

The Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril Ratepayers Association, a local, not-for-profit group is committed to the protection of the natural health and beauty of Sturgeon Bay – its waters and harbours, its living landscape of marine and wildlife, plants and topography.

This Association is dedicated to the conservation, restoration and enhancement of Sturgeon Bay to ensure the continuing quality of life for both seasonal and permanent residents who, as active association members, are working together for the common goals of water quality, ecologically sound shoreline development, wetland preservation and boating and swimming safety.

The Associations aim is to bequeath a legacy of pristine beauty and wildlife for future generations to enjoy just as we too have treasured this heritage.

Those waters and shorelines of Sturgeon Bay that lie east, north and south of Brignall Banks including the village of Pointe au Baril are the primary focus of the Association.

Objectives

To accomplish this mission the Association will adopt the following objectives:

  • Perform environmental monitoring to assess the overall health of Sturgeon Bay

  • Identify factors which may contribute to the deterioration of a healthy ecosystem

  • Develop and implement strategies to formally address potential problems which may be identified through the efforts of the Association.

  • Provide a forum to identify significant wetlands and other environmentally sensitive ecosystems to ensure their ongoing protection

  • Develop and promote initiatives to help retain the natural uniqueness of the area

  • Facilitate the exchange of information within the organization and community

  • Assist members with issues/concerns that are pertinent and consistent with our aims.

  • Encourage and support scientific studies that help further our cause.

  • Support existing educational programmes that are relevant to our mission and develop/ implement additional complimentary programmes specific to our area and mission

  • Create incentives for more individual and family participation to achieve our goals

  • Work co-operatively with local businesses and communities offering our support and work together to make a positive contribution to our mutual long-term success.

  • Interact with local, provincial and federal levels of both government and non-government agencies as necessary to
    1. monitor their policies and activities as these relate to and affect Sturgeon Bay Pointe au Baril area, and
    2. represent the needs and interests of our members


  • Foster co-operative partnerships / liaisons with other associations/groups having similar missions/objectives, as required, to accomplish the goals of our Association

Article III

Membership:

Active membership shall be open to all property owners and their immediate families within the Township of the Archipelago-North Section.

Annual active membership dues will be charged at the current rate of $70.00 per property, which will include one voting membership.

Associate membership (non-voting) is available to any non-property owner. Dues will be $25.00 annually.

Application for membership may be given to any Director but will only become effective once processed by the Secretary and Treasurer.

Annual dues are due on or before June 1st. Any member in default of their dues cannot vote at any meeting (usually scheduled for Civic Holiday Sunday in August).

Privileges of Membership:

All active and associate members, together with all members of their immediate families (including, sons, daughters, parents and grandparents), shall be entitled to participate in all activities of the Association save and except for voting on any resolution, by-law or election of officers of the Association. Only active members in good standing may vote.
